I've seen it take anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours to backup the same hard drive with Time Machine off. If you have any emulation software, I understand that can also slow it down that's to be expected and is known. That helped for me, when it always took a very long time and appeared to hang. If you have slow downs or a really long SuperDuper! backup time, make sure Time Machine is off. Hopefully you have another backup from before it happened. There are advantages to both methods, but either way, you have a disk problem that needs to be fixed and an incomplete backup. There are hundreds of thousands of files on a typical hard drive (usually quite a bit more), and knowing which ones don't matter is not always obvious. Unfortunately, it's not always easy to tell. There's little point in continuing, especially if those files are system related and you end up with a non-bootable drive.Ĭarbon Copy Cloner tries to keep going and logs what it failed to copy, leaving you to decide if those files are important. If Carbon Copy Cloner, finds any error, does it 'keep on cloning', whereas, here it sounds like SuperDuper stops, therefore which is truly the more ideal 'cloning' software to use.? Ok - should I just stop SD and then use CCC which I have? Or how should I handle this? SuperDuper will stop the copy process if it can't read or write a file because then the clone will not be a true copy, but sometimes it gets stuck.
